Theatre By The Sea owner and producer Bill Hanney, Producing Artistic Director Amiee Turner and Managing Producer Joel Kipper are proud to announce the 2009 summer schedule for Theatre By The Sea’s Children’s Festival. Performances will be held on Friday, July 10, July 24, July 31, August 7 and August 21 at 10:00 AM and 12 noon. Single tickets are $10 each with a three show package for $24. Discount rates are available for groups of 20 or more by calling (401) 782-3800 x18. Before or after the show families can enjoy cold drinks, pizza and cookies, which will be available for purchase at the gazebo.
The 2009 Schedule features the following performances:
July 10 – TAINO present Caribbean Carnival Celebration
Join Sana and Pap in an exuberant performance highlighting keyboard and congas. TAINO celebrates the Latin American Caribbean music of Guajira, Mambo and Salsa with a little Reggae thrown in! This festive program is loaded with audience participation. Kids and their parents will help create the beat, provide a backup chorus, and join in the music fun from these diverse ethnic origins!
July 24 –
Keith Michael Johnson presents The Secret World of Bubbles
"How do bubbles do that?" That is what this show is all about. Packed with stunning state-of-the-art bubble sculptures designed to snare the attention of every audience member. The science behind the magic unfolds like a mystery, making this show both educational and unforgettable. You’ve never seen bubbles like this before... you can learn a lot from a bubble!
July 31 – Okra Dance Company presents Dance, Dance, Dance
Take a multicultural tour of Africa, Poland, Asia, Israel the Caribbean and other nations around the world through the social dances that reflect each culture. Okra Dance Company performs the African Yembala, Chinese Sword Dance, Israeli Dodi-Li, Tango, Polka, Waltz, Jitterbug and more in a fast-paced, colorful production.
August 7 – Crabgrass Puppet Theatre presents The Last Dragon on Earth
For as long as anyone can remember, princes have killed dragons and rescued princesses. It's the way things have always been done. But what happens if the princess doesn't need rescuing, and the dragon to be killed is the very last one on Earth? This modern fairy tale is a wonderful introduction to the concept of species extinction and is brought to life by the Crabgrass Puppet Theatre with their trademark blend of beautiful puppets, fabulous scenery, and hysterically funny action.
August 21 – Outlandish Comedy Jugglers The Gizmo Guys
This Theatre By The Sea favorite is a comedy juggling act and much, much more! Original routines mix quick, witty and silly verbal repartee with world class juggling skills to create a truly phenomenal, but lighthearted approach to the ancient art of juggling performance. Amazing, energetic and funny!
