Manila, Philippines, October 21, 2012 - Spotlight Artists Centre brings back the landmark Pinoy musical "Katy!" at the Cultural Center of the Philippines' Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino in January 2013 with "Miss Saigon" original London cast alumna Isay Alvarez as the main lead, Katy de la Cruz, the legendary bodabil star, who was one of the most illustrious, internationally-acclaimed, and highest-paid performers of her time.

The new production of "Katy!," which also stars Tirso Cruz III, Dulce, Lou Veloso, Gian Magdangal, Epy Quizon, Tricia Amper-Jimenez, China Cojuangco, Vincent Evangelista, Any Bais, Poppert Bernadas, and other seasoned theater perfomers, reacquaints today's generation with the brand of music and singing style that the late bodabil star was known for.

The show presents ensemble singing and tap dancing; and promises its audience with brisk and swinging renditions of jazz, Broadway, vaudeville, and cabaret-type musical numbers.

"It has been a challenge as soon as our producers decided that I would be portraying the role, but I embrace it. Katy was truly committed to her craft that no matter what situation she found herself back then she would still give her 100%," Alvarez told BroadwayWorld.com during "Katy!'s" recent sneak preview at The Podium.

"I am moved by how this woman managed to give her all even in the midst of going through two deaths - the death of her father, and the death of her husband," she added.

"Katy!" features original music by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, libretto by Jose Javier Reyes, musical direction by Mel Villena, and direction by Nestor U. Torre.

Alvarez promises theatergoers a good show come January.
