The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts) Dance Department presents its Young Choreographers in Concert (YCC). This annual concert is the culminating event, or final exam, for the Senior Dance Composition course. Each senior student creates original choreography that is cohesively inspired by a theme of their choosing and sets their work on their peers. This year's performance features twenty choreographers and more than 70 dancers.
This year, the students' choreography features a wide range of themes including how the media that we consume affects our mood, how a cancer diagnosis can affect a family dynamic and how one finds joy despite a stressful situation.
Concert co-director, Amy Berry says, "YCC is an invaluable opportunity for students to find their creative selves and to see an artistic process through from conception to the stage. A physical and visual expression of the students' inner feeling and interests that is always an exciting and entertaining surprise to watch!"
Evening performances April 12 & 13 at 7 PM, matinee performance April 13 at 2 PM. Tickets are $6-$11 and available for purchase at CharterArts.org.
The Charter Arts Dance Department provides students with a comprehensive and quality dance education in an environment that nurtures the talent of each individual. Students engage in an array of technique classes, improvisation, composition and dance history classes. Dance majors also have numerous performing opportunities throughout the year, both in school and in the community.
