The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts) Theatre Department will hold its 2024 New Plays Festival to highlight the department's skilled playwrights. The festival will feature four selected original short plays that are written, directed, performed and designed by upperclassmen theatre and production arts students.
"The Krebs Cycle" by Patrick Biason is a wild romp into a future that depicts the inevitable and repetitive demise of our civilization and beyond.
"Bridge" by Sarai Misic gives us an intimate look into the relationship between a young man and his beloved grandfather as valuable life lessons are shared over fishing.
"Nosedive" by Sal Pandolfo and Elliot Farley follows Valentina, an immigrant and aspiring journalist, as she struggles to share the truth about her homeland while those around her fight to suppress it.
"Just Fish" by Ektor Chatzopoulos poses the comically philosophical question of what happens when an aquarium full of fish suddenly become enlightened.
Tickets are $6-$11 and can be purchased online at CharterArts.org or at the door. Parental discretion due to some profanity.
The Charter Arts Theatre Department offers a pre-professional training program for high school-aged performers. The goal is to provide students with the skills they will need to move on to competitive college programs as well as professional theatre experiences.
Classes are designed to encourage students to create imaginative and compelling characters, to regard their voices and bodies as creative instruments, to expose them to theatrical literature and to instill in them a sense of respect and professionalism for the art form that will stay with them throughout their lives.
