Picked best of the Fringe by Philadelphia Weekly. See the throat-slashing, rhyme-busting Shakesploitation II: Iambic Boogaloo, sequel to the sold-out 2005 Fringe hit. See R. Kelly and Juliet in "Trapped in the Closet", a screaming Viola in the muderdertastic "Friday the 13th Night", and "Cobra Commander III." The Badass bard is back! The original performances of Shakesploitation at the 2005 Fringe Festival sold out and received rave reviews. "One example of the inventive, unique offerings of the Philly Fringe is Iron Age Theatre and Centre Theater's "Shakesploitation" trio. This fast-paced comedy features three classic Shakespeare plays" stated Lori Zaspel of Out and About Magazine. The City Paper commented "Shakesploitation! successfully purees the Bard in a blender with Shaft with "Grand Theft Othello", the walking dead in "Romeo and Juliet II: Apocalypse", and kung-fu in "Ninja Hamlet Burning Fist of Denmark." The renditions will leave you in hysterics."
Second is Citizen Paine by Bill Hollenbach
Citizen Paine will be performed:
Sunday September 6 at 4pm
Monday September 7 at 7pm
Wednesday September 9 at 7pm
And Sunday September 13 2 PM
At The Philadelphia Fringe Festival
at The Moonstone Arts Centre
110 South 13th Street
Iron Age Theatre revives the 2009 premiere of the One man show about Paine. Adam Altman reprises his role from the sold out run in January. The new production includes text revisions that tighten the show and intensify the message. Thomas Paine, most radical of the American Revolutionaries, considers his life and philosophy. Our forgotten Founding Father, a Citizen of the World, may offer some Common Sense to the world today and reinvigorate the promise of America. Iron Age Theatre brings Thomas Paine to the stage in this dynamic one man show illuminating Paines vision for Freedom, Citizenship and Social equality through the lens of his amazing life. Commissioned by Iron Age Theatre, the play is written by Bill Hollenbach, noted playwright.
