BIO
Shawna Hamic is a multifaceted artist with a body of work which spans over 2 decades. As a performer, Shawna has been seen on TV on such shows as Bull on CBS, Watch What Happens Live on Bravo, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon & Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, both on NBC. You can currently watch her as C.O. Ginger on the award winning Netflix original show Orange is the New Black.
On Broadway, she played Mrs Dees in the musical The Last Ship, written by rock icon Sting. Sting even wrote a song to open the second act (titled Mrs Dees Rant) just for Shawna. She’s toured the country as Madame Thenardier in the 25th Anniversary production of Les Miserables and as Trish in Kinky Boots. Once crowned the winner of the New York Musical Theater Festival’s Next Broadway Sensation, Shawna won a solo cabaret show produced at the famed Joe’s Pub in NYC.
As a photographer, Shawna has been published in Time, Rolling Stone, Elle, Dance, & Arrive magazines.

Imagine walking into Jackson Hall on opening night, as I did, thinking, “Why did the directors reimagine this pleasant, if somewhat plodding, old-school musical with an ensemble of multi-ethnic women, trans and non-binary actors cast in the roles of America’s founding fathers?” Then leaving the theater after the final curtain wondering, “why on earth would anyone ever feel the need to cast the roles with men?” and reveling in the fact that 1776 tapped into my heart in unexpected ways, eliciting an emotional and, I daresay, patriotic response.
