Cellist Lynn Harrell Dies at 76

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Cellist Lynn Harrell has died at age 76. His wife, violinist Helen Nightengale, announced the news on social media. She did not disclose the cause of his death. His death was 'unexpected' according to a statement provided by Columbia Artists.

Trajal Harrell Performs Solo in New York Live Arts

Choreographer Trajal Harrell presents his dance solo The Return of La Argentina in Prime Time, a performance series presented as part of Mx'd Messages, New York Live Arts' 2017 Live Ideas festival. In his solo, Harrell invites audiences to a fictional archiving of Butoh co-founder Kazuo Ohno's renowned solo Admiring La Argentina as directed by Butoh's other founder Tatsumi Hijikata and dedicated to the famed Spanish dancer Antonia Merce.  The performance will be followed by a conversation with Harrell, Mx'd Messages festival curator Mx Justin Vivian Bond and Bill T. Jones.

Previously, he taught at Western Michigan University specializing in music theatre performance. ANNAPOLIS, MD – World renowned cellist, Lynn Harrell, joins the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra in the next set of Lexus Classic Series concerts at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 8pm.  Music Director José-Luis Novo will conduct the orchestra and Mr. Harrell in Dmitri Shostakovich's Concerto for Violoncello No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op. 107.  The concert will also feature Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in D Major, “Titan.”

Lydia Harrell, a Michigan native currently living in Boston, and actress Rhianna Radick, who was born in Philadelphia and has lived in New York City for the past two years, were winners of the Second Annual Duke Ellington Jazz Vocal Competition held Saturday, October 24, at the 41st Annual 52nd Street Duke Ellington/Americana Jazz Festival in Manhattan.

American cellist Lynn Harrell will join the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Music Director Robert Spano to perform the Dvo?ak Cello Concerto Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 8:00 p.m., and Friday, March 27, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. at Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. The program will also include Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4.
