BIO

J. Steven White (Stage Combat and Competitive Fencing) begins his 33rd year of teaching for NYU Tisch’s Graduate Acting Program. His fight direction has graced the stages of every major New York Theater, including the Manhattan Theater Club, Classic Stage Company, Playwrights Horizons, The Roundabout Theater Company, and the Irish Repertory Theatre.

He has worked at many of the nation’s regional theaters, including eleven seasons at American Conservatory Theatre, where he began his teaching career 50 years ago. His Broadway credits include The Color Purple, Uncle Vanya, A View From the Bridge, The Lion in Winter, All My Sons, as well as Shogun: The Musical (Associate Director). His other New York credits include Don Juan, Fifth of July, Monster, The Credeaux Canvas, A Skull in Connemara, and Hotel Suite. He has worked on two major productions of Burn This. The first with Edward Norton and recently with Adam Driver.

For the New York Shakespeare Festival, his fight work has been seen in 22 shows including Julius Caesar, In the Blood, The Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, King Lear, A Language of Their Own, The Playboy of the Western World, and Cymbeline with Liev Schreiber and Michael C. Hall, whom Mr. White helped train at Graduate Acting. Mr. White is also the Supervising Producer of the Harold Clurman Lab Theater at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting where he has produced 24 productions, both classical plays such as Three Sisters and new works by such playwrights as Halley Feiffer and Zayd Dohrn.

Two River Theater Company to Stage AS YOU LIKE IT, 1/25-2/16

Two River Theater Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, continues its 2013/2014 Season with Shakespeare's romantic comedy As You Like it, directed by Michael Sexton (Two River's Henry V), the Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Society in New York. Performances will begin in Two River's Rechnitz Theater, 21 Bridge Avenue, on Saturday, January 25, with the opening night on Friday, January 31 at 8pm. Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, launches its 2013-2014 Season with Paul Osborn's On Borrowed Time, directed by Tony and Academy Award-winner Joel Grey. Performances will begin in Two River's Rechnitz Theater (21 Bridge Avenue) today, September 14 and continue through Sunday, October 13. Stella Adler Studio of Acting Outreach Division Presents CORIOLANUS, Aug 10

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Summer Shakespeare program will perform Shakespeare's Coriolanus on August 10th. The cast are members of the studio's free Outreach program for disadvantaged New York City youth. Students from all five of New York's boroughs auditioned and 22 kids were invited to participate in the legendary acting school's program. The studio looks for kids who live at or under the poverty line who don't have arts access at school and who display an appetite or passion to learn something new. The students are mentored by theater professionals such as Broadway fight director J. Steven White.

Danai Gurira's powerful new play, "The Convert," which was commissioned by Center Theatre Group, will be presented at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, April 17 through May 19, 2012. The opening is scheduled for April 19. The world premiere production of "The Convert," a co-production with McCarter Theatre Center and Goodman Theatre, is directed by Emily Mann.

The Public Theater announced that Barry Edelstein will be the Director of The Public Theater Shakespeare Lab.
