Howell Binkley has received several prestigious awards for his work in lighting design. He won the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design at the Olivier Awards for Hamilton. He also earned the Best Lighting Design award at the BroadwayWorld Awards for Allegiance and for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Binkley received the Tony Award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical for Hamilton as well as for Jersey Boys, where he was also honored with Outstanding Lighting Design at the Outer Critics Circle Awards. Additionally, he won the Lighting Design award from The Hewes Awards for Jersey Boys. His work on Sweeney Todd garnered him the Outstanding Lighting Design, Resident Production award at the Helen Hayes Awards, as did his work on Tempest, Macbeth, and Richard III. He received the Outstanding Lighting Design award from the Drama Desk Awards for The Full Monty.
