Ani Taj is a choreographer, performer, and founder of The Dance Cartel. She choreographs musicals, plays, concerts, music videos, art parties, flash mobs, and more. She is fueled by research trips to Brazil and loves to make dances inspired by Carnaval. Since 2012, The Dance Cartel's acclaimed event ONTHEFLOOR has toured many diverse spaces, including Ace Hotel NY, Velocity Dance Center, Bootleg Theater (LA), The High Line, Brooklyn Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Music videos for Yoko Ono, Reggie Watts, Vic Mensa, Sarh, and The Sway Machinery. While bridging gaps between dance and music scenes, Taj keeps one foot firmly in the world of live theater. Recent projects include Runaways (New York City Center), Lazarus (Associate Choreographer, NYTW), The Convent of Pleasure (Cherry Lane Mentor Project), NOIR (SAF), The Nomad by Elizabeth Swados (The Flea), Good Men Wanted (ANTFest, Arena Stages), Love's Labour's Lost (Assistant Choreographer, Shakespeare in the Park), Jesse Eisenberg's Asuncion (Rattlestick), and several projects with Les Freres Corbusier.
