RENT opened to a sold out house! Don't miss your chance to see the Oklahoma regional premiere of RENT at the Pollard Theatre in historic downtown Guthrie now through Saturday, October 31, 2009!

Loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Bohème, RENT is a fantastic journey with seven friends who live in New York City's East Village. Working to survive and create, the young artists are living in the shadow of AIDS while struggling to maintain a Bohemian lifestyle that is quickly disappearing.  RENT gained critical acclaim on Broadway and won four Tony Awards in 1996 including Best Musical.

"RENT ushered in a brand new era for Broadway because it was unlike anything that came before it," Pollard Artistic Director W. Jerome Stevenson said.  "The show's message of love and celebrating life was able to reach the traditional Broadway audiences and created a brand new audience at the same time. Young people started standing in line overnight just to get tickets. That's truly remarkable."

Stevenson continued, "The Pollard is thrilled to present the Oklahoma regional theatre premiere of RENT.  The Broadway National Tour brought the show to town before, but the Pollard is the first professional theatre company in the state to produce the show."

RENT runs through Saturday, October 31, 2009 with evening and matinee performances. The show is intended for mature audiences and does contain some adult themes, language, and situations, as well as partial nudity.

The Pollard Theatre, Oklahoma's resident theatre company, was founded with the primary goal of producing a wide variety of quality theatrical experiences for the residents and tourists of Central Oklahoma. The Pollard produces six or more plays and musicals annually, enlisting the talents of skilled artists from all across the country.

The Pollard Theatre is produced by the Guthrie Arts and Humanities Council and sponsorship for the Pollard's 23rd Season is provided by Rose Rock Bank and Union Bank. The Pollard Theatre is also a recipient of a marketing grant from the Inasmuch Foundation. Additional funding is provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment of the Arts.

Tickets for the Pollard's production of RENT range from $15.00 - $25.00 with groups of 10 or more eligible for group discounts. In addition, the Pollard offers Student Rush tickets at a cost of $8.00 for any performance.   Student Rush tickets go on sale only at the Box Office one hour before show times, and students are required to show a valid student I.D and pay in cash.  The Pollard offers no guarantee of availability and will not take reservations for Student Rush tickets, which are good for available seating only.
