About the Artists & Works-in-Progress
The artists will present a range of dance works-in-progress exploring the VSPS 2024 theme, social rescue and healing. The works will explore identity-based violence, and infringement on personal rights to bodily autonomy (Teresa Fellion & BodyStories, New York); a release for grief and loss and a celebration of love (Tessie Herrasti, New York); fusing art, dance, & videography practices through location & humor (Tamie Rietenbach, Columbus, OH); environmental justice, including the detrimental effects of fast fashion, plastic pollution, and light pollution (Muyu Ruba, Philadelphia); and equity, diversity, inclusivity, and human connection (sarAika movement collective, New York).
About MDD’s Virtual Salon Performance Series for Social Change
Founded in 2010, MDD's Virtual Salon Performance Series for Social Change supports performing artists in New York City & State, U.S., and globally with a focus on Asian American, Pacific Islander, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Latinx, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, seniors, and others.
