Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel at Lovinger Theatre/Lehman College

The Bronx Opera will present the beloved family opera Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck.  Performed in English, the production will feature singers drawn from opera companies around the world and will be conducted by Michael Spierman; Ben Spierman is General Director.  Composer Humperdinck described his opera as a Marchenoper (fairy-tale opera); libretto is by his sister Adelheid Wette, based on the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale of the same name.   Hansel and Gretel premiered Dec. 23, 1893 in Weimar, conducted by Richard Strauss.
