As the Public Theater’s hit summer revival of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical prepares for a 2009 Broadway transfer, its cast members are keeping the spirit of peace and love alive with two free events this fall. On Sunday, September 21, HAIR cast members will gather in Central Park for a “Be-In” celebrating the International Day of Peace, where they will share flowers, stories and food with New Yorkers committed to celebrating unity and love.   On Monday, October 13, the cast will perform a free concert at Joe’s Pub called “A Night of Music and Love” as part of Joe’s Pub’s “10 for the 10th” anniversary celebration.

The “Be-In” on Sunday will take place from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Frisbee Hill, located just north of the Sheep Meadow Café in Central Park. The nearest park entrance is at 69th St. and Central Park West. The event will provide HAIR fans with an opportunity to mingle with members of The Tribe while sharing their commitment to ending global violence. At the climax of Act 1 of HAIR, the characters attend a “Be-In” in Central Park where they burn their draft cards and unite against war. No tickets are required for this casual event, although attendees are encouraged to bring food and stories to share.

For a late night performance on Monday, October 13 at 12:30 a.m., HAIR cast members will reunite for a free evening of great music, featuring selections from the ‘60s songbook, surprise special guests, and a free-flowing vibe of peace, flowers and happiness. The concert is presented as part of Joe’s Pub’s “10 for the 10th” celebration, which honors the popular venue’s 10th anniversary with ten free concerts. To enter the Virtual Line for free tickets to this event, log on to www.joespub.com anytime between midnight on October 1 and 11:59 on October 5.

Directed by Diane Paulus, with book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot, HAIR began previews on July 22 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park and played to sold-out houses through the final performance on September 14.  HAIR will transfer to Broadway later this season.
