Alto, NM – Odyssey Dance Theatre’s “Thriller” is a theatrical dance celebration of creepy ghouls in 12 hilarious dance numbers such as “Death of a Sugarplum Fairy,” “Frankenstein & Frankenstein,” Jason’s Jam,” “Dem Bones,” “Children of the Corn,” “River of Blood: and of course, Michael Jackson’s international sensation “Thriller,” which takes place in a creepily foggy cemetery. Odyssey Dance’s “Thriller” is dance macabre that features break-dancing mummies, vampire ballerinas, clumsy Frankenstein love pas de deux, a Hunchback dancing to Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night,” witches “Staying Alive” and hip-hopping skeletons – just terrific Halloween horror with phenomenal skill and all genres of music (cinematic, classical, jazz, hip-hop, disco, Broadway, rock, be-bop, Celtic, new age, instrumental, spooky).

Featuring 15 dancers of amazing athleticism and theatrical skills. under the artistic direction of choreographic brainchild Darryl Yeager, a former Broadway dancer (“A Chorus Line” and “Cats”) and film/TV actor (“Staying Alive,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Moonlighting.”). The costuming and makeup is sensational, as is the music and choreography.

What’s utterly cool about the 8 p.m. Friday, October 18 performance of Odyssey Dance Theatre’s “Thriller” is that it’ll include 10 to14 additional dancers – all from the greater Ruidoso area. That’s right, friends and neighbors of all ages will be helping loop the night away.

The audition for dancers is Friday, October 18 at 10 a.m. (sharp!) at the Ruidoso Dance Ensemble’s new studio at 143 El Paso Road (the City Bank building, near the hospital). Any age of resident or visitor may participate in the free workshop and auditions, but previous dance experience is necessary. The audition will last about one hour; dancers will participate in rehearsals later that day and appear in the 8 p.m. performance. How cool is that? The performance as well as workshop and auditions are sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. All together it’s frightening, mostly high-energy fun. Check it out.

Also, post performance, all patrons are invited to a ‘Monster Mash’ in the Spencer lobby. Costumes are welcome! Twist and dance with the best spooks in town.
