AUDITIONS ANNOUNCED FOR THEATRE ASPEN
2015 REPERTORY SEASON AUDITIONS BEGIN
Audition dates for the 2015
Theatre Aspen season were announced today by Executive Artistic Director Paige Price. Auditions for all Aspen and Roaring Fork Valley actors will be held Sunday, January 25th, in the Red Brick Arts Center at 110 E. Hallam Street in Aspen. Appointments are available from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Possible callbacks may be held in Aspen on March 8th. Additional auditions will be held in New York in January and February.

Theatre Aspen’s summer lineup at the Hurst Theatre will open June 26th, with the musical CABARET, running in repertory with the award-winning dramatic comedy Other Desert Cities, and Junie B. Jones – The Musical, part of the organization’s “Kids for Kids morning matinee” series, featuring Theatre Aspen’s professional apprentice company. The fourth show, a family-friendly play with music, cannot be announced until the first week of March, due to licensing restrictions. Carbonell Award-winner and Theatre Aspen favorite Mark Martinowill direct and choreograph CABARET. With a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the musical begins previews June 24th and runs through August 15th. Eric Alsford (Les Misérables) returns as musical director. Martino will also direct the yet-to-be-announced play, and it is anticipated that most actors in the season will perform in two productions in repertory.
Junie B. Jones – The Musical, based on the popular children’s books by Barbara Park, with music by Zina Goldrich and book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler, plays June 29th through August 15th. Devanand Janki (Zanna Don’t), whose choreography garnered a Lortell nomination for the original Off Broadway production, will direct and choreograph.
Finally, beginning August 4th and running through August 22nd isOther Desert Cities, by Jon Robin Baitz. Director is Sarna Lapine. The “yet-to-be-announced” play will start July 15th and will also close August 22nd.
Productions take place in the Hurst Theatre in Rio Grande Park and will be underwritten by season sponsor ANB Bank, with the generous support of Franklin and Barbara Carson, Jessica and John Fullerton, Jane and Liz Armstrong, Soledad and Bob Hurst, the City of Aspen and The Aspen Club and Spa. Theatre Aspen will launch the Aspen Theatre Festival beginning this summer, featuring new plays and musicals being developed for the stage. The organization initiated their new play initiative in May of 2014 with the Duncan Sheik/Steven Sater musical Alice By Heart, directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Chase Brock, presented at the Wheeler Opera House. This year the festival will take place in late August at the Hurst Theatre. The selected plays will be announced in March.
