Center Stage Jackson is excited to announce auditions for its Main Stage production of The Music Man, Book, Music & Lyrics by Meredith Willson, based on a story by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey.
Auditions will be held on Saturday August 25th from 10:00am-Noon and Tuesday August 28th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Jackson's First Presbyterian Church, 743 W. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan 49201. Parking and entrance are located at the rear of the church.
This production is under the direction of Lisa Cryderman, with music direction by Larry Sumner, Jr., choreography by Aimie Smith, and costumes by Ellen Yoakam.
The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.
Performances of The Music Man will be held November 2-4 and 19-11, 2018 at Jackson College’s Potter Center, 2111 Emmons Rd. Jackson, Michigan 49201. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30pm, Sunday performances will begin at 3:00pm.
This production calls for all genders and types, ages 5 through 105. In particular, this production needs men that can harmonize for a barbershop quartet featured throughout the show.
Auditioning actors should prepare a vocal solo no longer than 16-32 bars in a similar style to the show that showcases their range and ability. A pianist will be provided, but actors may bring their own audio track, pianist, or accompany themselves. A speaker with CD player, auxiliary cord, and iPhone adapter will be available. Actors should dress comfortably for a short choreography audition, and bring their calendar of obligations for September 3rd through November 12th.
Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday from 6:30pm-9:30pm starting September 3, with the occasional Friday rehearsal. Not all actors will be called to every rehearsal until the week of October 29th approaches. There will not be rehearsal on Halloween.
