NO STRINGS THEATRE announces AUDITIONS for THE MRS. WHEATLAND PAGEANT,
a Comedy by Lisa Wagner Erickson, directed by Ceil Herman.
Auditions will be held on Monday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Black Box
Theatre, 430 N. Main Street in Las Cruces
Set in a fictitious town on the eastern plains of Colorado. The play is a
rollicking comedy where nostalgic sitcom fantasies, strange fertility
regimens, and gender norms collide in one woman’s search for certainty in a
world that is anything but.
Needed are three women and one man. The roles are:
JUNE CLEVELAND : 29, worries about turning 30, Longs to live in a perfect
world with no uncertainty
JIM CLEVELAND: Mid 30s. June’s husband. Sick of small town life. A Man’s
man who happens to like baking and high heels.
BARB: Late 20s to early 30s. No-nonsense and independent. Refuses to
conform to stereotypical gender norms
VIVIAN: Late 30s to mid 40s: wife of a philandering local preacher. On a
mission to be the hottest Christian woman in town.
MILLIE (ANNOUNCER): 27, local school secretary. The voice is only heard
during pageant announcements and can be played by one of the actors playing
June, Vivian or Barb.
Auditions will be readings from the script. A perusal copy with be
available at the Branigan Library Ask Here Desk from July 16.
The play runs from September 6-22. There will be an extension to September
29 if audience response warrants.
