TexARTS, located in Lakeway, TX, welcomes members of the Actors’ Equity Association and non-union performers to audition for the upcoming production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Performances: August 17-20; 24-27; and Aug. 31 -Sept. 3. Shows at 7:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 2pm on Sundays

Rehearsals will be held weekday evenings and during the daytime on weekends at TexARTS in Lakeway. The show will perform at the TexARTS Kam and James Morris Theatre, 2300 Lohman’s Spur, STE 160, Austin, TX 78734

Breakdown

Seeking members of Actors’ Equity and nonunion actors. Performers of all ethnic and racial background are encouraged to attend.

Miss Mona Stangley (35?55) – The madam of the house. She runs a tight ship and as a result, a successful business. She’s seen enough of life to know what to expect from other people, and she dares not allow herself to be disappointed in others.

Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd (35?55) – The sheriff who has had a long standing relationship with the Chicken Ranch and Miss Mona. His compulsiveness leads to the ultimate downfall of Mona and the Ranch. A good ole boy who grows tired of the hypocrisy of others

Melvin P. Thorpe (30?55) – The media “watchdog” who helps bring the trouble to the Chicken Ranch.

Jewel (30?55) – The housekeeper of the Chicken Ranch, she is Miss Mona’s right hand.

Governor (45?65) – The Texas governor who eventually orders the closure of the Chicken Ranch.

Doatsy Mae (30?55) – A waitress in the town who has known about the Chicken Ranch for years, has no issue with it or Miss Mona.

Angel (20's) – A new arrival to the Chicken Ranch, she presents herself as a more experienced working girl. Eventually joins the rest of the working girls.

Shy (18?27) – A new arrival to the Chicken Ranch, she is young and inexperienced, she is running away from something. Eventually joins the rest of the working girls.

“Working Girls” (various) ? Up to 8 different girls in the house, working for Miss Mona. These roles will be heavy on song and dance.

Aggies (various) – These men will also be used in the first scene and in the number “Good Old Girl”. These actors will be expected to sing and dance.

Other Supporting Roles:

Senator Wingwoah, Edsel Mackey, C.J. Scruggs, Mayor Rufus Poindexter, Thorpe’s Chorus, and other supporting roles.

Preparation

Please prepare 16-32 bars of a ballad and 16-32 bars of an up-tempo song that shows range and personality and is within the style of the show. Bring sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided.

Please bring two resumes and headshots. AEA members should bring proof of Equity membership. EMC actors will also be seen. Nonunion actors are welcome and encouraged to attend. Actors should be 18 years+.
