THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER - Des Moines Community Playhouse

Auditions for the Des Moines Community Playhouse production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018. Due to construction at the theatre, auditions will be held at West Des Moines Christian Church. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. Questions about auditions should be directed to Robin Spahr, 515-974-5365.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” contains speaking roles for 1 man, 6 women, 5 boys and 5 girls, ages 8 and up, and an ensemble of boys and girls, ages 8 and up. Performances are Nov. 2-25, 2018, with school matinees Nov. 12-13. Where race, ethnicity, gender, age, or other personal differentiations are not specified by the script, the Playhouse casts plays without regard to these attributes, and actively encourages participation by all members of the community. “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is directed by Anne Frett.

Now in its 20th season, the Playhouse offers one of the community’s most beloved performance traditions: “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” In this hilarious holiday classic, a mother struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids, the most inventively awful kids in history. You won’t believe the mayhem – and the fun – when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on! Based on the book by Barbara Robinson.

The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
