SHOUT! The Mod Musical, By Philip George and David Lowenstein
Directed by Troy Jones; Musical Direction by Dorothy Wright; Choreography by Paulette Bethel
Presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Contains adult themes.
SHOUT! travels in time from 1960 to 1970, chronicling the dawning liberation of women. Just as Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, and Cilla Black were independent women with major careers, English and American women were redefining themselves in the face of changing attitudes about gender. With a shimmy and shake, the songs are tied together by hilarious sound bites from the period, from advertisements to letters answered by an advice columnist who thinks every problem can be solved with a fetching new hair style and a new shade of lipstick. Songs include: How Can You Tell, Wishin' & Hopin', One Two Three, To Sir With Love, Don't Sleep in the Subway, Son of a Preacher Man, Goldfinger, You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, and more!
At Surfside Players, Cocoa Beach, Brevard County.
Take Highway A1A, then west on Fifth Street South; playhouse is at the end of the street.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for dancing. No resume required.
Prepared audition pieces are optional; if desired, should be a cappella and under 90 seconds.
CHARACTERS
Blue Girl: A blue-blooded fashion model with a high soprano belt. Blue is sophisticated, poised, cool, and aloof.
Green Girl: Mezzo with Shirley Bassey-like belt. She is a good-time girl and a comedian. Blousy, middle-class, and zany, she is a bit frayed at the edges, and hopelessly single.
Orange Girl: Soprano with belt. The mother of the group, Orange is domestic and maternal. Wise, soulful, and mature, she is slowly asserting her new-found independence.
Red Girl: Soprano with belt. The baby of the group, Red is quirky, enthusiastic, and naive. A hopeless romantic, she is insecure about her looks.
Yellow Girl: Alto with big rock diva belt. Yellow is an uninhibited and brash American. She is a ray of sunshine with a surprising vulnerability.
Don’t forget the final weekend of Hello, Dolly, through February 2nd! Get your tickets today!
