Kentwood Players will hold auditions for the hilarious musical “SCREAM QUEENS - The Musical” with book, music and lyrics by Scott Martin on Saturday, July 14 from 11:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday, July 15 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Westchester Playhouse, located at 8301 Hindry Avenue, Westchester, CA 90045. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Monday, July 16 at 6:00pm. The production is directed by its author Scott Martin with Susan Goldman Weisbarth producing by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Choreographer will be Victoria Miller. Production dates are September 14 to October 20, 2012, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm at the Westchester Playhouse.
“SCREAM QUEENS” takes place in a hotel ballroom outside of Cleveland, Ohio in 1998. Six voluptuous B-movie “Scream Queens” revive their fading acting careers by presenting a musical revue for their fans at a science fiction and horror film convention. From young newbie to seasoned grand dame, the Queens strut their stuff in song and dance, proving themselves to be the sexiest and most popular actresses in the business. During 90 minutes of hilarious musical mayhem, the Queens take the audience behind the scenes into the marginally talented world of no-budget creature features with ridiculous scripts, rubbery monsters and gooey “special FX.” They sing! They dance! They die!
For the auditions, director Scott Martin would like you to prepare 32 bars of an energetic up-tempo musical comedy standard. No ballads, no Sondheim, no Webber, no angst! Scott wants to see your bubbly high-spirited personality. Bring sheet music in the proper key and an accompanist will be provided. Monologues from the script will be available in the lobby. Please come dressed showgirl sexy, but comfortable enough to move for the dance audition along with character shoes. There is no nudity in the show but costuming will be very sexy and revealing.
Please bring your headshot and resume and be prepared to let us know of any conflicts you might have during the rehearsal period. Advance appointments are not necessary. Please be aware that all characters will be involved in 12 minutes of original video material (short horror spoofs) that will be shot during the rehearsal period and shown at every performance. The show will be performed with recorded orchestral tracks and not with live musicians. For more information, email

Cast Breakdown
RICHELLE – The cute one; mid-30’s; alto, perky, a girl next-door smile with a girl on the corner body. She was the most popular “Scream Queen” of the late 20th Century and is very anxious to revive her career.
NADINE – The British one; mid-50’s; alto, sensual yet aloof. She’s the senior “Scream Queen” who has seen and done it all, having played everything from a corpse to a vampire princess to a prehistoric tribal maiden to a Playboy centerfold—almost. She’s a semi-recovered alcoholic and sneaks a quick drink from a flask whenever she thinks no one is looking.
BIANCA – The loveable one; late 30’s; mezzo; very buxom, good natured with practical mid-western earthiness. She’s happily married with children but never lets the spotlight intrude on her private life. Her occasional clumsiness is due to the size of her breasts and her refusal to wear her eyeglasses in public.
TONYA – The sincere one; late 20’s; mezzo, sweet, charismatic, still somewhat naïve. A former Tri-State cheerleading champion, she is the most serious actress of the group and really believes that her B-movie career will lay a foundation for respectable stardom.
DEEDEE – The trashy one; mid-30’s, mezzo; intense, edgy, tough on the outside but lonely and desperate within. She wears extreme makeup, hair and clothes to hide her natural beauty, and will do anything to, for, and with anybody (including a popular porno video series) to get ahead and be noticed like her idol Traci Lords.
ALEXIS – The smart one; early 40’s; alto, compassionate, sisterly, level-headed. She has a college degree, invests carefully and acts as the politician, often refereeing amongst the other Queens. She also has the good business sense to produce her own videos.
