ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS - Oyster Mill Playhouse

Oyster Mill Playhouse To Hold Auditions for Musical Comedy One Man, Two Guvnors

The Oyster Mill Playhouse will hold auditions December 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. for One Man, Two Guvnors
, the second production of its 2016 season. No pre-registration or previous acting experience is required. The play, directed by Craig Copas, calls for a cast of six men and three women. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. An accent identifiable as “British” is required for all characters with the exception of Lloyd, who has a Jamaican accent. A musical audition is not required, but be prepared to sing a short a cappella passage if asked.

It’s 1963 in Brighton, England, change is in the air, and Francis Henshall is looking to make his mark. Fired from a skiffle band and in search of work, he finds himself employed by small-time gangster Roscoe Crabbe, in town to collect a fee from his fiancee’s gangster father. But Roscoe is really Rachel, posing as her own dead brother, herself in love with Stanley Stubbers (her brother’s killer) who, in turn, becomes our hero’s other ‘guvnor’. Fighting a mounting sense of confusion, Francis goes out of his way to serve both bosses. But with the distractions of a pneumatic book keeper, a self-important actor and select members of the criminal fraternity (not to mention his own mammoth appetite) to contend with, how long can he keep them apart? Richard Bean’s hilarious comedy received 5-star reviews from every London newspaper and was the hit of the 2012 Broadway season, receiving four nominations for the Outer Critics Circle Award and seven Tony nominations, with James Corden taking home the Tony for Best Actor for his performance in this uproarious comedy.
