Hill Country Community Theatre is planning a big finish to their 2022-2023 Season with the large-cast musical version of the story of Oliver Twist. Auditions will be held this month for the July running production.
The HCCT production team and staff hope that local audiences will “consider themselves at home” with Lionel Bart's classic musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist. Set in Victorian England, Oliver is a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, who becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. The Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike.
Auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday evenings, April 24 and 25, 6:00-8:00pm at the theatre venue at 4003 W FM 2147 in Cottonwood Shores. The production will be led by HCCT Artistic Director, Daniel Melton, and show Musical Director, Christine Ashbaugh. OLIVER! The Musical will require a bigger-than-average cast with a wide variety of ages, including children. There are primary roles for 9 men and 7 women, adults of varying ages. The full character list can be found on the theatre website
https://thehcct.org/auditions. Additional adults and children will be needed for the ensemble. “This musical could provide a great opportunity for a talented family to work on a community production together,” stated Melton. All those auditioning for parts are asked to prepare a short song demonstrating vocal range and ability, as well as a monologue. There will also be a brief movement audition; appropriate footwear will be expected.
Lionel Bart’s OLIVER! The Musical will run for four weekends at HCCT July 14-August 7. For more information on this and other exciting stage productions, call the HCCT Box Office at 830-798-8944 or visit
