Callbacks (if needed): Sunday, July 21 from 6-9pm. Sides will be provided.
How to Prepare: 1-2 minute contemporary monologue (comedic or dramatic)
Rehearsals: Table reads will begin in late July. Staging rehearsals will begin early August. (adjustable times and dates depending on cast schedules)
Tech Rehearsals: Will be September 7 and 8th. 12pm to 9pm.
Dress Rehearsals: Tuesday, September 10 and Wednesday, September 11, final dress Thursday, Sept. 12- 6-11pm.
Production Dates: September 13 to October 6. Friday and Saturday night curtain is 7:30pm and Sunday matinee curtain is at 2:30 pm.
Compensation: All actors are offered a $150 stipend.
About the Play: Now and Then is a heartfelt romantic comedy about the costs of choices we make, and the people who make them with us. Sometimes what happens after last call can change a person’s life. One night in 1981, just as Jamie is closing the bar where he works, a desperate last minute customer offers him and his girlfriend, Abby, two thousand dollars to sit and have a drink. Before long, the young couple realizes that this stranger knows too much about their lives and their dreams. A second stranger arrives, a stranger that also knows the couple too well. Abby and Jaime sees their future and how it complicates this one night in 1981.
Time and Place: A bar in 1981.
Characters:
JAMIE
Late 20s-early 30s. Bartender and aspiring pianist. Attractive in a regular guy way. Sincere, hardworking, very much in love with ABBY.
MAN
Mid 60’s. A bit beaten down but good-natures. Easy to talk to, well-spoken, sincere, and very intent on his mission. Husband of 35 years to WOMAN. He is desperate.
ABBY
Late 20s-early 30s. IHOP waitress and one-time English major. Funny, smart and very much in love with JAMIE.
WOMAN
Mid-60’s. Strong, direct, loving, a little coarse. She is MAN’S wife of 35 years. No one knows her like he does and no one knows him like she. She and MAN bicker but there is a bedrock of love there. They’d do anything for each other and no one can hurt either of them like the other one can.
