This musical is a World Premier new musical about the heartwarming retelling of the Christmas story set to the amazing music of The Beatles.

Project Rate: Varies amongst characters (see role descriptions). Cast stipends range from $2000 to $6000 flat for all Lead roles, and $250 to $2000 flat for all Supporting roles. (Please note that some talent will be cast in multiple roles and therefore get paid for each role they are playing not just one role.) No travel/housing fees will be provided if talent is coming from outside Austin.
Audition Date: Thurs. 9/5/13 from 4-9pm, Fri. 9/6/13 from 4-9pm, Sat. 9/7/13 from 9-11am
Callback Date: Sat. 9/7/13 from 12-5pm
Rehearsal Start Date: Tues. 9/10/13 (Rehearsals will only be 2 evenings/week for the 1st 2 months)
Performance Schedule: Sat. 12/14/13 - Sat. 12/21/13 (2 shows per day at 5pm & 8pm. NOTE: The 2 leads will only do 1 show a day as we will be double casting these roles)
Performance Location: Austin, TX at Gateway Church in NW Austin (McNeil Campus)

CHARACTERS
JOE (Lead speaking/Lead singing role): Male - 17-30 years, open on race. Attractive & fit. Must have an amazing singing voice and dance training is a plus. He represents Joseph the father of Jesus in the bible - a good kid with a good heart – is crazy about Mary at first sight. *Please note we will be casting 2 different actors to play this role – one for matinee performances and one for evening performances.
MARY (Lead speaking/Lead singing role): Female - 17-30 years, open on race. Attractive & fit. Must have an amazing singing voice and dance training is a plus. She represents the Virgin Mary from the Bible. In this story she is the new girl in town that everyone adores. She falls in love with Joe only to find out she is pregnant from the Holy Spirit with a special child. *Please note we will be casting 2 different actors to play this role – one for matinee performances and one for evening performances.
MADDIE (LADY MADONNA) – (Major speaking/Major singing role/Choreography): Female – age 30’s-40’s, open on race. Should be attractive. Must have a powerful singing voice and dance training is a plus. The “village tramp” that can barely make ends meet. She should also be good with dance & learning choreography. There is no husband with her now – but there have been six in the past. Being a tramp is humiliating, but it pays the bills and keeps her kids fed. Her Dream? – To be a published author, a paperback writer. Her Spiritual Quest? – To gain a second chance, dignity, respect, self-sufficiency.
ALLISON RIGBY (Minor speaking / Major singing role): Female - 18-28 years, Caucasian. Should be attractive & fit – even model type. She is the “prodigal daughter” of Eleanor Rigby. Allison ran away to the big city to sew her wild oats and become a movie star, but her mother died alone during her absence. Allison’s Dream? – To be an actress. Her Spiritual Quest? – Forgiveness for abandoning her mother, healing, freedom, discovery of her true identity.
JUDE (THE “WALRUS”) – (Minor speaking/Major singing role): Male - Late 20’s to late 30’s, open on race. He is a stoner - musician type. Must be able to sing and move well. The “fool on the hill” whose love left him long ago. Afraid to love and trust again, he sits alone on the hill all day writing nonsensical songs, hiding his brokenness and pain. His Dream? – To be taken seriously as an artist/musician. To write songs so powerful that they elicit change in society for the good. His Spiritual Quest? Emotional healing, restoration, to love again.
BECKY (Major speaking/Major singing role): Female, age 18 – late 20’s, open on race. She is one of Mary’s Friends (Becky, Betty, Brenda). The three are not sisters but act as if they were. Fun, free-spirited, spunky but sweet. All must be able to sing well or sing through with a strong character. Becky is closest to Mary, smart, most compassionate, loveable and sweet. She also has the most dialogue of the three and the most singing, so she must be able to sing and act well.
BETTY / BRENDA (Minor speaking roles/Minor singing roles): Females, age 18 – late 20’s, open on race. They are the other two of Mary’s Friends (Becky, Betty, Brenda). The three are not sisters but act as if they were. Fun, free-spirited, spunky but sweet. All must be able to sing well or sing through with a strong character. Betty & Brenda are sillier, a little less mature than Becky, but still sweet and likable.
BENNY (Major speaking/Major singing role): Male, age 18 to 30, open on race. He is one of Joe’s Friends (Benny, Bobby, Billy). Must be able to sing and move well. They are not brothers but act as if they were. They are fun, immature, but loveable. Benny is more of a military, revolutionary-type. He is closest to Joe, smart, most compassionate, has a quick wit. Comedic timing a plus.
BOBBY (Minor speaking/Minor singing role): Male, age 18 to 30, open on race. He is one of Joe’s Friends (Benny, Bobby, Billy). Must be able to sing and move well. They are not brothers but act as if they were. They are fun, immature, but loveable. Bobby is a little less mature than Benny but still has a quick wit. Comedic timing a plus.
BILLY (Minor speaking/Minor singing role): Male, age 18 to 30, open on race. He is one of Joe’s Friends (Benny, Bobby, Billy). Must be able to sing and move well. They are not brothers but act as if they were. They are fun, immature, but loveable. Billy is the goofy one-liner guy, the least mature of the three. Comedic timing a plus.
HEAVEN’S ANGEL #1 – (Major speaking/Major singing role): MALE OR FEMALE, Late 20’s to 40’s, open on race. Looking for a very powerful gospel singer with great stage presence. Appears to Mary and others with messages from above. Script and songs are written for female, but this role is actually the Angel Gabriel – using artistic license here if female.
HEAVEN’S ANGEL #2 – (Minor speaking/Minor singing role): MALE OR FEMALE, Late 20’s to 40’s, open on race. Looking for a very powerful soulful singer with great stage presence. Appears to Joe and others with messages from above. Role is written for a male but could be either male or female.
MADDIE’S KIDS - BOYS (Minor acting roles/Non-speaking): Male, age 5-11, open on race. They make up Maddie’s 6 kids – all from different dads. We want all different ethnicities and heights, body types, etc. They should have lots of energy and personality - all should sing and dance well.

TOWN CRIER (Minor speaking role/chorus): Male, 30's to 50's, open on race. Strong announcing voice – likeable – entertaining. This character is supporting and may possibly play dual supporting roles.
POSTMAN (Minor speaking role/chorus): Male, 30's to 50's, open on race. Kindly, likeable – MUST be able to ride a bike! This character is supporting and may possibly play dual supporting roles.
INNKEEPER (Minor speaking role/chorus): Male, mid 40's to 60's, open to race. Kindly, likeable, wise - must act well. This character is supporting and may possibly play dual supporting roles.
