Times:
Childrens Chorus only: Wednesday June 21th 7 to 10 pm and Saturday June 24th from 9am to 12 am. (Parent Child auditions will be accommodated on Saturday)
All other roles: Thursday June 22 and Friday June 23 from 7 to 10 pm, Saturday June 24, from 1 pm to 5pm and Sunday June 25 from 1pm to 5pm.
Callbacks: June 27 from 7 to 10pm if needed – notification will be provided Monday June 26th.

Rehearsals will begin Tuesday September 26, 2017 and run to January 14, 2018. There is only a small break for Christmas/New Year December 23, 2017 to Jan 2, 2018. Rehearsals start back on January 2, 2018.
Typically, rehearsals will be Tuesday and Friday from 7-10pm and Sunday from 1pm - 5pm. Tech Week rehearsals on January 15 to 19 will be Monday–Thursday from 6-11pm.
The production runs from January 19, 2018 to January 28, 2018. There are evening shows at 8 pm on Friday January 19th, Saturday January 20th, Thursday January 25th, Friday 26th and Saturday January 27th. Matinee performances will take place at 2pm on Sunday January 21st, Saturday January 27th and Sunday January 28th. Call times for arrival at the theatre for each performance is generally 1.5 hours in advance of performance time.
PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION
Sha la la Joseph you’re doing fine! You and your dreamcoat ahead of your time! One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors.
Told entirely through song with the help of a main character Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right hand man and reunites him with his family.
The magical musical is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from a parody of French ballads (“Those Canaan Days”), to country-western (“One More Angel in Heaven”) and calypso (“Benjamin Calypso”), along with the unforgettable classics “Any Dream Will Do”, “Close Every Door” and the Mega Mix.
Auditioners should prepare:
General:
• Bring sheet music in appropriate key with 2nd copy for accompanist bound for easy page turning unless using songs provided . No CD’s
• Theatre Unlimited supports diverse casting.
• Dress to move for dance/movement audition
• All roles will require a dance/movement audition.
• Be prepared to stay at audition for a minimum of 1 hour between movement and song.
• Please advise the audition panel if you play either Accordion or Violin.
• Headshot not required we take a photo and resume if available

CASTING:
Narrator (Stage age 25 to 40): The Narrator is a magical storyteller whose purpose is to remind humanity of the importance of these stories in relation to our everyday life experiences. She needs to be a strong singer who can draw the audience into the saga of Joseph and his brothers. (Vocal Range – Low F# to High G)
Mrs. Potiphar (Stage age 40+): Mrs. Potiphar is an indulgent woman who likes to get her own way, and thinks first and foremost about her own personal gratification. She needs to be a confident mover/dancer, who is comfortable moving in a seductive manner. She will also be a part of the women’s chorus.
Joseph: (Stage age 20 to 30) Jacob's favorite son. Joseph must believe in himself and his convictions. Honest and likable with good intent. Humble but proud and able to transition to the leader of a nation. He needs to be a strong singer and actor. (Vocal Range – Low A to High G)
Jacob: (Stage age – 50+) Jacob is the father of Joseph and his 11 brothers. He clearly favors Joseph as the first son of his favorite wife, unwittingly causing the friction that exists between Joseph and his brothers. Jacob needs to be a good actor, who can sing and move reasonably well. He may also be a part of the men’s chorus. (Vocal Range – Low A to C)
11 brothers: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Napthali, Issachar, Asher, Dan, Zebulon, Gad, Benjamin & Judah (Stage ages 18 – 40)
Joseph’s 11 brothers, who were born of 4 different mothers (two wives and two handmaidens), are jealous of Joseph and the fact that he is clearly their father’s favorite son. As brothers they band together and gang up on Joseph to get rid of him thinking it will make their lives better. Some brothers may double as other male roles, depending on need. All need to be strong singers, as well as good dancers and actors.
Reuben: sings “One More Angel in Heaven” – (Vocal Range – Low B to High F)
Simeon: sings “Those Canaan Days” – (Vocal Range – C to High Eb)
Judah: sings “Benjamin Calypso” – (Vocal Range – F to High F)
Pharaoh: (Stage age 30s/40s) Pharaoh is the leader of Egypt and a very self-important man. He sings an Elvis-style song, “Song of the King” and is very comfortable having adoring fans. He needs to be a strong singer and actor and a good dancer/mover. (Vocal Range – Low B to High G#)
Potiphar: (Stage age 40+) Potiphar is a wealthy, self-indulgent man. He needs to be a strong actor as well as a good singer. (Vocal Range – D to B)
Butler & Baker: (Stage Age 25+) The Butler and the Baker both work for the Pharaoh. These are character roles and should be good singers. These roles may be cast from either the Brothers or be part of the male chorus.
11 Wives: varying age and for the roles of wives, featured dancers and chorus.
Female Chorus (4-6 women): varying age and size, for Jacobs wives and handmaidens, mothers, Ishmaelites, and chorus.
Male Chorus (4-6 men): varying age and size, for Ishmaelites, Pharaoh’s guards, and chorus.
Other featured roles include (to be selected from wives, brothers and adult chorus):
• soprano soloist for one more angel in heaven
• singers/dancers for One more angel in heaven
• go-go dancers/singers for go, go, go joseph
• Calypso dancers
• Potiphar’s court, Snake Solo and Camel Solo
Children’s Chorus: 20 Chorus roles for boys and girls (stage ages 8-15) The chorus will be on stage for the majority of the show.
