NO STRINGS THEATRE COMPANY AUDITIONS FOR HEROES ON AUGUST 4 AND AUGUST 5 AT 7:00 P.M.
No Strings Theatre Company announces auditions for HEROES by Gerald Sibleras, translated by Tom Stoppard directed by larrychandler. The auditions will be held at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Downtown Mall in Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 4 and Monday, August 5.
In this hilarious and poignant play, we meet three World War I veterans who pass their memory-filled days in a military hospital by engaging in verbal battles of long-forgotten military campaigns, grumbling about the staff and reflecting on their lives. One is afflicted by a gamy leg, one suffers from agoraphobia, and the third passes out, frequently, because of a piece of shrapnel lodged in his brain. Their cantankerous camaraderie becomes strained when one of them conjures up an escape plan. Looking over the cemetery to the poplar trees beyond, they dream of freedom. Will today be the day they finally make it to Indochina, or perhaps only as far as the top of the hill?
Needed are 3 men, ages 60 to 80. Auditioners may be of a younger age as long as they are playable to those ages.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and improvisations. There will be no callbacks. A copy of the script is on reserve at the Branigan Library Research Help Desk.
Performances are October 11 - October 27 with possibility of extension to November 3 should audience response warrant. For more information, contract the director, larrychandler at
