CASTING NEEDS: Seeking a multi-ethnic, diverse cast of teens/adults of all ages for GODSPELL, the Stephen Schwartz musical with book by John-Michael Tebelak. Seeking strong singer/actors who can move well. The cast will be larger than the traditional ten characters. This production WILL include the Prologue and Tower of Babble
- Leading Role: Jesus | Singer/Actor who can move well (vocal range A3- G4); solos God Save the People, Beautiful City, Alas for You, All for the Best
- Additional named characters Judas/John the Baptist will be double cast from within the Featured Company.
- Featured Company of 10-12 (evenly balanced men/women) †Strong Singer/Actor/Dancers; as the core community of followers/disciples of Jesus; specific characterizations not completely necessary. Songs & specific parable assignments ultimately will be assigned based on individual talent and not necessarily following scripted characters. While these must be able to stand out with strong performance skills, it is important that they are able to function as an ensemble unit.
- Strong soloists: These individuals will be covering all major solos of the show. See GODSPELL CALLBACK SONG EXCERPTS spreadsheet for more details.
- Strong actors: They are onstage throughout the entire production and must show strong comedic/improv skills, functioning well as a unified acting ensemble. The opportunity to work together this extensively is like no other show experience!
- Strong Musicians: The 2012 Revised Edition has extensive and intricate vocal arrangements which are really challenging. This group must be able to learn highly intricate harmony parts!
- Strong Movers: This is a HIGH ENERGY production requiring the ability to MOVE and sustain the energy!
- Additional Chorus of 10-20 strong singer/dancers, singers who move, or dancers who sing; this additional group will join on specific large ensemble numbers such as Day by Day, Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord, Light of the World, O Bless the Lord, We Beseech Thee, Beautiful City, Finale.
- The song On the Willows could potentially be covered by a duet from this group, although it is traditionally covered by the band.
