Pioneer Theatre Company Announces Auditions for the Musical

Auditions for Pioneer Theatre Company’s 2013-2014 holiday production, Elf: The Musical will be held Friday, September 20, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Callbacks will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013; time and place will be announced to auditioners who are called back.
Audition slots from 11:00 a.m. to noon on Friday, September 20th are for Actors’ Equity members only. Audition slots from noon to 3:00 p.m. that day are open to all auditioners. Auditioners must be 18 years old or older. The audition slots are limited to three minutes.
All auditioners must come in to sign up on the callboard in Room 325 at Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. The sign-up sheet will be posted by noon on Thursday, September 12, 2013.
Auditions will be held in Room 245 at Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. The first audition will be singing only. Auditioners should prepare from a traditional musical theatre piece; nothing contemporary, please. An accompanist will be provided, but auditioners should bring their own sheet music. A photo and résumé are recommended. The callback audition may involve movement, reading from the script and music from the script.
Rehearsal dates for the production are Monday, November 11, 2013 – Thursday, December 5, 2013; performance dates are Friday, December 6, 2013 – Tuesday, December 24, 2013 with a possible extension until Saturday, December 28, 2013. The production will be directed by Dan Knechtges. The choreographer is Liza Gennaro and the musical director is Tom Griffin.
All roles are currently available; all auditioners must be 18 or older. Elf: The Musical is the musical version of the popular Christmas movie starring Will Farrell.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
BUDDY – (High Baritone/Tenor)(Range: Low A flat to High C) Any ethnicity. 30s to 40s but boyish, male. Funny and warm with an infectious personality. He has been raised as one of Santa's Elves and has the innocence of a child. He has outrageous enthusiasm for everything he sees and does but it is very genuine. We are seeking a comedian with great timing and impeccable physical comedic skills. Must be charming and extremely likable.
JOVIE – (Mezzo Soprano/Alto)(Range: G (below middle C) to High F, strong belt)Any ethnicity. Female, 20s to 30s, warm, funny and comedic. A New Yorker that doesn’t have much Christmas spirit until meeting Buddy. Must have a great singing voice and be appealing, relatable, offbeat and funny.
WALTER – (High Baritone/Tenor)(Range: Low A to High G) Any ethnicity, 50s, male. He is an upscale successful businessman who has become cold and distant with his family until Buddy enters their life. He is a workaholic with little time left for enjoying life or appreciating simple things. Must have a great singing voice.
EMILY – (Mezzo Soprano)(Range: A flat (below middle C) to D, strong belt) Female, age 40s, warm, amazing singing voice. A very New York, dry-witted loving mother to Michael, and wife of Walter.
DEB – (Mezzo Soprano/Alto)(Range: Middle C to D, strong belt) Female, any ethnicity, 30s to 40s, funny secretary, full of character and sharp wit, great singing voice and moves well.
MR. GREENWAY – (High Baritone/Tenor)(Range: D sharp to High A) Male, any ethnicity, 50s, shrewd businessman, must have an amazing singing voice and great comic timing.
SANTA- (Baritone)(Range: Low A to E (above middle C)) Male, to play Caucasian, 50s to 60s, jolly, warm, funny, good singing voice. Down to earth, a beer and pizza kind of Santa.
STORE MANAGER – (High Baritone/Tenor)(Range: Low B to High F sharp) Male, non-white, 30s to 40s, funny, physically large, full of character, lots of attitude, sassy and spirited. Must be able to sing well and have great comic timing.
COMEDIC FEMALE ENSEMBLE DANCER/SINGERS - Female, all ethnicities, to play 20s to early 30s, funny, attractive, smart, seeking very strong dancers with big personalities who sing very well. Dancers should have a strong sense of style. Some tap required.
COMEDIC MALE ENSEMBLE DANCER/SINGERS - Male, all ethnicities, to play 20s to late 40s, funny, smart, unique, seeking very strong dancers with big personalities who sing very well. Dancers should have a strong sense of style. Some tap required.
