DAY OF ABSENCE - Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis: a new living theatre is holding:

AUDITIONS FOR “Day of Absence”
by Douglas Turner Ward
Directed by Aaron Zilbermann

Open auditions for "Day of Absence," a critically acclaimed play by Douglas Turner Ward, will be held on Wednesday, January 10 from 5:30pm-8:30pm. The auditions will be held at:

The Sammons Center for the Arts
Historic Turtle Creek Pump Station
3630 Harry Hines Boulevard
Dallas, TX 75219

Casting a satire about an imaginary Southern town, where all the black people have suddenly disappeared. Infants are crying because they are being tended to by strange parents. The Mayor pleads for the President, Governor, and the NAACP to send him "a jackpot of jigaboos." "Day of Absence" is a provocative play presented as a reverse minstrel show (an almost entirely Black cast painted in white-face). The commentary on white privilege and white identity in the absence of people to oppress is quite revolutionary.

There are roles for 4 African American Men between the ages of 25 and 45 and for 3 African American women between the ages of 24 and 45.

Rehearsals will begin February 18.
The production open on March 22 and runs for 4 shows.
Actors compensation varies depending on the size of the role. Average actor compensation is about $600.

Auditions are by appointment, which can be made by emailing Ashley Oliver at Ashley.m.oliver@hotmail.com
