Open Auditions at HCCT for Western Musical
Hill Country Community Theatre will be holding open auditions for their boot-stompin’ summer musical, DESTRY RIDES AGAIN.
HCCT is reviving the rip-roaring, root-tootin’ classic western firecracker of a musical for their hill country audience this summer. DESTRY RIDES AGAIN, first a movie starring James Stewart in 1939, then a Tony award-winning Broadway musical in 1959 starring Andy Griffith, the story centers on the town of Bottleneck, now being overrun by the nasty Kent gang who have taken out the sheriff. The new sheriff, Tom Destry, hopes to save the town without using a gun, and falls in love with the sassy saloon girl.
The open audition call is for Monday and Tuesday, May 2 and 3, beginning at 7:00PM at Hill Country Community Theatre, 4003 W FM 2147 in Cottonwood Shores. No appointments needed, and materials for cold readings will be provided. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a song they are familiar singing without music. Guest directors, local favorites Jordan Jones and Christine Ashbaugh (music), will be casting roles for a large cast including a variety of ages, both men and women.
“We are so excited about this show,” enthused HCCT Executive Director, Patty Gosselin. “It has such an impressive history, and who in Texas doesn’t love rooting for the peace-loving sheriff in a western?”
DESTRY RIDES AGAIN is scheduled to run July 15-August 7, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.
