Buck Creek Playhouse will hold open auditions for the Tony Award-winning musical comedy, City of Angels, by Cy Coleman, David Zippel, and Larry Gelbart. Director D. Scott Robinson and Vocal Director Kevin D. Smith are looking for six females, seven males, and a large ensemble for this jazzy tribute to 1940's Hollywood and the film noir style. Auditioners should come prepared with sixteen to twenty measures of an audition song, preferably from the 1940's. An accompanist will be provided. No unaccompanied singing or accompaniment tapes or CD's, please. Those auditioning may be asked to read from the script or sing from the score. Please bring a list of all conflicts from April through June 2013. All roles are available. City of Angels is scheduled for a nine performance run June 7-23, 2013.
Swinging, sexy, smart, and funny! Set in the glamorous and seductive Hollywood of the 1940's, this ingenious spoof of the classic film noir era and whodunit films tells side-by-side stories about the "real" world of a detective fiction writer and the "reel" world of his fictional gumshoe hero. One balances romance and rewrites, while the other sidles through a film noir netherworld of vicious thugs and femmes fatales. Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, City of Angels is the first Broadway musical hit to have a full-blown jazz score.
