Lyric Opera of Chicago is auditioning highly trained dancers with classical ballet experience, including pointe work, with strong acting experience for its upcoming production of the opera
Capriccio by Richard Strauss. This revival production will be conducted by Sir Andrew Davis and staged by Peter McClintock; Val Caniparoli is the choreographer and August Tye is the ballet mistress.
Rehearsals begin September 15, with seven performances October 6 through 28, 2014.
Capriccio requires one couple (1 man/1 woman). Lyric will hire two couples with the intention of rotating performances and understudy assignments between them (manner of rotation to be determined). All four dancers will be hired under a solo dancer contract. Professional training in classical ballet technique, specifically en pointe, is required, as well as professional stage experience and a dynamic, dramatic presence. Interested male dancers must have strong partnering skills.
