REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:Monday through Friday, 7:30pm to 10pm, from November 24th through January 8th (not all will be called for every rehearsal; rehearsal schedule will be constructed based on cast conflicts). Also note that some extra weekend daytime rehearsals will be scheduled, due to the upcoming holidays.No conflicts accepted for Performance Dates or the week before Opening.

PLOT SUMMARY: Eugene Jerome dreams of baseball and girls ... but in his everyday life, he has to cope with the mundane existence of family life in Brooklyn: a formidable mother, an overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche and her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters, and you have a recipe for hilarity -- served up Neil Simon style! This bittersweet memoir evocatively captures the life of a struggling Jewish household where, as Jerome's father states, "If you didn't have a problem, you wouldn't be living here."

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Eugene Morris Jerome, age 15:
The narrator of the story; he is a normal 15-year-old boy who has recently discovered girls in a BIG way. He is very bright, quick-witted, and observant of everything going on around him, which he then notates in his journal -- someday to become his memoirs.
Stanley Jerome, age 18 ½:
Eugene's older brother. In order to help the family, he works in a factory instead of attending college. Stanley does this without complaint, but he does feel the weight of his obligations and struggles between listening to his own heart and convictions and doing what the family needs him to do.
Kate Jerome, about age 40:
The mother of the Jerome household, she attempts to hold her family together and solve their problems. She has worked hard her entire life and probably grew up too fast because of it. She puts the family's needs before her own -- and though she often sounds annoyed by it, her greatest pleasure is being needed.
Blanche Morton, age 38:
Kate's younger sister. She is recently widowed, very indecisive, and dependent. She wants to have a life for herself and her daughters, but she doesn't know how or where to begin. She feels buried with her husband. Blanche finds herself and her own strength throughout the play.
Laurie Morton, age 13:
Blanche's youngest daughter. She's a studious, yet quietly mischievous, 13-year-old who is all ears around the adult situations. She appears innocent, but she really has a grasp on what the others around her are "up to."
Nora Morton, age 16 ½:
Blanche's oldest daughter. She's a beautiful and ambitious 16-year-old girl with dreams of Broadway. She is often resentful of her younger sister (who is pampered, due to heart flutters) and angry at her father for dying and leaving her with a weak mother.
Jack Jerome, about age 40:
The head of the Jerome family; he feels the pressure of supporting an extended family by working two jobs -- but does what he has to do to provide for his family, even at the risk of his health, and wishes he could give them more. With as little as they have, he would still stretch further to help any family member in need.
