Brief Synopsis:
Theresa Bedell is a successful reporter in New York who agrees to go on a blind date with a friend of a friend. Tony is attractive and funny, but after a second date she’s convinced they have nothing in common and sees no point in continuing the relationship. Tony, though, thinks otherwise, and it quickly becomes apparent that he is unstable and Theresa has had the misfortune to become his latest obsession. Boy Gets Girl examines the living nightmare of stalking, sexism and the nature of the idea of romantic pursuit in this somber, grown-up play about a very real and dangerous phenomenon. “A disturbing chiller…” – Variety.

Roles (3 women, 4 men):

Theresa Bedell: 30s. Writer for The World magazine in New York. Attractive, orderly, independent, strong, and used to being on her own. (NOTE: This is a demanding role as the actress will be on stage for 95 percent of the play. Anyone with major conflicts during the rehearsal process will not be considered for this role.)

Tony: Early 30s. Attractive, but not “smooth.” At times seems socially awkward. Has an almost undetectable undercurrent of anger.

Howard Siegel: 50s. Theresa’s boss and mentor, editor of The World. He is a father figure to Theresa. Caring, but has no clue how to deal with women.

Mercer Stevens: 30s. Theresa’s co-worker, a writer for the magazine. Competitive, charming and the newest writer for the magazine.

Harriet: 21. Theresa’s research assistant. Very attractive, trendy, slightly clueless in a sheltered kind of way (but not vapid). Harriet is a people pleaser.

Madeleine Beck: 40s. Police officer. Compassionate but hardened, experienced, matter-of-fact, and college educated. Truly wants to make a difference.

Les Kennkat: 70s. Movie producer and director of low-budget, 1960s sexploitation movies. He is without pretense and takes pride in his work. Honest, forthright, and lonely.

All roles are available.
