Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte would like to announce auditions for the rock musical BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, book Alex Timbers and music and lyrics written by Michael Friedman. BBAJ will be directed by ATC Artistic Director Chip Decker and choreographed by Tod Kubo. This production begins rehearsing on August 19 and will rehearse weekday evenings and weekend afternoons. BBAJ will run September 13-29, 2013. Auditions will be held for both EQUITY and NON-EQUITY actors. Please see the appropriate listing below for details.
EQUITY PRINCIPAL AUDITIONS
For all members of Actors’ Equity Association, these auditions will be held on Tuesday, April 30 at 9:00am- 12:00pm (lunch break 12:00pm-1:00pm) and also 1:00pm- 5:00pm. They will be located at Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte, located at 650 East Stonewall Street. Appointments are suggested, but not necessary. NON- EQUITY AUDITIONS

AUDITION REQUIRMENTS
Music: 16 bars of an up tempo rock ballad (Suggested material- American Idiot, Yellowcard, Blink-182, Alanis Morissette, etc.) Accompanist will be provided. Bring your own sheet music. NO Acapella auditions.
Monologue: Prepare a one minute comedic monologue or “Stump” speech as to why you should be President. Have fun. Be bold.
Dance: The dance portion of the audition will be held at callbacks only. If called back, those will be held Tuesday April 30th 6pm-10pm. No character shoes! Converse sneakers and the like preferred.
Additionally, if you can play guitar (electric or acoustic), mandolin, banjo, ukulele or accordion, bring with you and be prepared to play a sample.

If you are unable to attend the audition calls, but still wish to be considered, we do accept video audition submissions. Please follow the instructions above for both MUSIC and MONOLOGUE. ABOUT THE PLAY
An audacious mix of historical fact and fiction, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson redefines America’s controversial seventh president — the man who invented the Democratic Party, drove the Indians west, and ultimately doubled the size of our nation — with a raucous blend of outrageous comedy, anarchic theatricality and an infectious emo punk rock score. BBAJ is a high energy, very physical production, including: high octane choreography, stage combat, aspects of aerial and a commitment to the rock and roll persona! There is no perusal script/score available, but we suggest you youtube the show just to get a taste of the style.
ROLES AVAILABLE
ANDREW JACKSON (Male, 20s-Early 30s) A roguish, man’s president. Deeply charming and sexy, so much so that you somehow don’t mind he’s a violent, arrogant, bigoted idiot. Fights passionately for what he believes in. Personifies “strong but wrong.” Ages throughout the show so should be able to play young. Must be adept at deadpan comedy. Guitar-playing a plus. High baritone rock. Up to a G belt.
MARTIN VAN BUREN (Male, 20s-Mid 30s) Jackson’s right hand man. In over his head. A buffoon, well-intentioned and utterly lovable. Think Nicely-Nicely. Doubles as other roles.
RACHEL JACKSON (Female, Mid 20s-Mid 30s) Jackson’s wife. Deeply religious and devoted, even maternal, to Jackson. Strangely alluring, not overtly sexual. Doubles as other roles.
THE STORYTELLER (Female, 20s-40s) Milquetoast, oppressively good-natured narrator. Wears a Puff the Magic Dragon-style sweater, thick glasses, and her hair in a bun. Loves history, loves Jackson, and loves telling the audience about both. Being in this show might be the most exciting moment in her life. Will double with other roles.
JOHN C. CALHOUN (Male, 20s-Mid 30s) Gentlemen senator from the South. Sinister, good-looking, charming, and brilliant. A vain mastermind. Wears the finest clothes. The most restrained of the cabal. Tall, thin. Doubles as other roles. Baritone
HENRY CLAY (Male, 20s-Mid 30s ) A backwoods version of Calhoun’s villainous senator. Think Crispin Glover. Greasy hair. Wears weasel pelts. Over-the-top and vivacious. Transparent in his villainy and revels in it. Tall, cadaverous. Doubles as other roles, Baritone
JAMES MONROE (Male, early-mid 30s ) President of the United States. Old school American aristocracy. Foppish and overwhelmed. Exasperated by Jackson’s overreaching as well as by the idiocy of his advisors. Doubles as other roles.
JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (Male, Early 20s-Early 30s) Former President’s son. Whiny, spoiled, demanding. All grown up, has joined the Calhoun-Clay cabal. Really, really wants to be President. Like, right now. Doubles as other roles. Baritone
BLACK FOX (Male, 20s-Mid 30s ) Native American chief. Intelligent, somber, with a hint of danger. Used to work alongside Jackson, an alliance that led him to tricking and betraying other tribes for Jackson. By the end of the show, he’s forced to beg his friend for mercy. May double other roles
BANDLEADER (Male/Female, 20s-40’s) Dark and dangerous. Multiple Instrument skill a plus.
FEMALE SOLOIST (Female, 20s-40’s ) Sings “Ten Little Indians”; Self-confident, attractive singer with powerful, emotive indie rock voice. Dark, mysterious, hip vibe. Doubles as other roles. Think Dresden Dolls, not musical theater. alto-belts up to a Bb.
VARIOUS ENSEMBLE (Male/Female, 20s-30s) Frontiersmen, Indians, Soldiers. Doubles other roles. Strong pop/rock vocals.
