Kentwood Players will hold auditions “Becky’s New Car” by Steven Dietz on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 6-9:30pm and Monday, November 11 from 7-9:30pm with callbacks on Tuesday, November 12 at 7pm at the Westchester Playhouse, located at 8301 Hindry Avenue, Westchester, CA 90045. Production dates are January 10 to February 15, 2014 for a six-week run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm with Sunday matinees at 2pm. The production is directed by Susan Stangl and produced by Larry Jones by special arrangement with Dramatist’s Play Service, Inc.
“Becky’s New Car” is a thoroughly original and contemporary comedy about love, loss, choices and what makes life worth living, a devious and delightful romp down the road not taken. Have you ever been tempted to flee your own life? Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and in a middling marriage—with no prospects for change on the horizon. Then one night a socially inept and grief-struck millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where Becky works. Becky is offered nothing short of a new life…and the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun in a way that most plays wouldn't dare.
Please come to the auditions prepared with headshot and resume. No advance appointment required to audition. Script sides of monologues and short scenes will be provided at the auditions. Rehearsal schedule will be posted in the lobby during the audition period, so please bring your calendar to list scheduling conflicts. Callbacks will include additional scenes from the script and some improvisation. For further information or copies of the audition script sides, please email the director, Susan Stangl, at

Cast breakdown:
Becky, 45-58 – LEAD – Funny, quick, sympathetic and down-to-earth woman. She is onstage throughout most of the play and needs to be able to think on her feet and interact spontaneously with the audience. She will need to be available for all rehearsals and able to handle a lot of text.
Joe, 45-58 – Becky’s husband, works as a roofing contractor, loving, practical and straightforward. He is the kind of man you would trust with your roof and just about anything else.
Chris, 25-30 – Becky’s son, is a graduate student in psychology who still lives in his parents’ basement when he meets the girl of his dreams. He gets very enthusiastic about whatever he is involved with at the time.
Steve, 45-60 – Becky’s co-worker, sad sack car salesman, widowed husband of Becky’s best friend, still mourning his wife, obsessed with her and having trouble moving on, while also unintentionally making us laugh.
Walter, 50-63 – Wealthy businessman, widowed, comes in to buy cars and falls for Becky. Although successful in business, he is clueless and naïve in his personal life.
Kenni, 21-27 – Walter’s rich, spoiled daughter who loves and protects her father and is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants in life.
Ginger, 50-60 – Walter’s wealthy single neighbor and family friend, she has fallen on hard times. She is funny and ironic with a dry wit.
