AND THE CROWD GOES WILD - Midtown International Theatre Festival - WorkShop Theatre Mainstage

And the Crowd Goes Wild, which is to make its premiere at the 2017 Summer Midtown International Theatre Festival, is in need of 11 actors. And the Crowd Goes Wild is a 2 act play that tells the story of Mickey Morris, a young girl from Kentucky in the 1920's. In an attempt to heal a toxic relationship, she befriends and later falls for the star of her town's baseball team. Lawrence seems perfect, except - he's hiding a secret that could put both him and Mickey in jeopardy.

Auditions will be held on FEBRUARY 25th at NOON in the Kimmel Center for University Life at NYU. Room number TBA. We ask that you send an email to gch265@nyu.edu prior to auditioning, just so we can get an approximate count as to who will be coming. Please bring a headshot and resume to the audition. We ask that you also prepare 30-45 seconds of a contemporary monologue.

The festival lasts from July 15 to August 6, although the exact performance dates for And the Crowd Goes Wild have yet to be determined. Rehearsals will begin in April (exact date TBA) and last up until the beginning of July. There is a small complication due to me not being in NYC during the month of June, but rehearsals during that time have been taken care of and will be further discussed with the cast. You basically just need to be available from April through August 6. This is a non-Union production, although actors will receive a small stipend, the exact amount to be determined.

Below is a character breakdown. Please let us know which character(s) you plan on auditioning for in the email.

CLARK ARCHER - Male, 25-35. Radio personality for the local radio in Beattyville, Kentucky. Known for his sports announcements. Incredibly suave and sultry, the poster man for the 1920's.
MICKEY MORRIS - Female, 19. Very femme and feminine. Conservative out of ignorance, culture, and naivety. Flapper dancer. Too skittish and afraid to get out of her toxic relationship with Kenneth, although she becomes more sure of herself as her relationship with Lawrence develops. Completely unaware that Lawrence is actually Laurel, and stuck in an inner conflict once she discovers the truth.
LOUISA - Female, 17-19. A friend of Mickey's. Can also be a member of the ensemble.
JEAN - Female, 17-19. A friend of Mickey's. Can also be a member of the ensemble.
JUNE - Female, 17-19. A friend of Mickey's. Can also be a member of the ensemble.
LAUREL/LAWRENCE CALVIN - Female, 22. Spirited and just a bit of a daredevil. Semi-masculine. Disguises herself as the baseball player Lawrence Calvin in order to play on the Beattyville Pioneers team. Falls hard and fast for Mickey, although she disguises her love, knowing the consequences if she is caught.
BUDDY - Male, 25-45. A minority, specifically African American. Not well educated and shows it in his speech. Cleans up the baseball fields. Befriends Laurel and serves as her confidant.
HOWIE STONE- Male, 30-45. Manager of the Beattyville Pioneers. Headstrong and just a bit arrogant, although he is a good man at heart. Has a soft spot for Laurel, even though he becomes frustrated with her at times because he knows how much of a risk it is for her to be on the team.
KENNETH - Male, 18-20. Mickey's boyfriend. Often called Kenny. Very masculine and jock-like. Immature in humor and nature. Often cruel and mean-spirited. One to make rude, ignorant jokes. Very possessive of Mickey, to a point of abuse; sees it as he owns her. He is incredibly insulted when Mickey stands up to him and leaves him for Lawrence.
HAROLD MORRIS - Male, 11. Mickey's younger brother. In awe and idolization of his sister, which first comes out as anger and jealousy, but later grows into a strong bond. Upbeat and playful, as most 11-year-olds are. A little bit of a pest.
JOE MORRIS - Male, 45-55. Mickey and Harold's father. Very loud and outgoing. Tough. A bit rough around the edges. Very conservative and opinionated. Cares about his children, although he often gets frustrated with them.
ENSEMBLE - group of people used for: Mickey's friends, bar customers, baseball fans, dancers, the peddler
