Title: A Christmas Story, The Musical
Children's Auditions ONLY
This musical, which received rave reviews on its Broadway run, is based on the movie classic that runs round-the-clock on television every Christmas. Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana, the musical follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the Holy Grail of Christmas gifts—an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Rebuffed at every turn with a similar echoing response, Ralphie plots numerous schemes to achieve his desperate desire for the coveted BB gun. All the iconic scenes from the movie are here: Ralphie's friend, Flick, getting his tongue stuck to the flagpole; his brother, Randy, getting dressed in his snowsuit; the bullies, Farkus and Dill; the leg lamp award; the bunny suit; Christmas dinner; and many others.

All roles listed in character breakdown below are available. Pioneer Theatre Company is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and is seeking all races, ethnicities, body types, gender identities, actors with disabilities, and actors of all ages for roles in this production.
Ralphie: 9, going on 10 (may be played by a 9 to 12 year old). Cute and winsome, but not precious. Bright, but not precocious. A regular kid you wouldn’t mind having as a next-door neighbor. He’s a bit mischievous and rascally but with a twinkle in his eye. Vocal range F#3-D5
Randy: 7 to 8 (may be played by a 7 to 10 year old). Ralphie’s younger brother. Cute, cuddly and whiny. Admires Ralph but won’t admit it. He’s at the stage of childhood wherein he seems opposed to everything, but he’s still lovable – not a brat. Vocal range A3-D5
FLICK: 9-10 (May be played by a 9-12 year old) One of Ralphie’s classmates and best buddies; Flick is the guinea pig in the flagpole licking experiment. Sings some solos, so should be a confident singer and comedic actor.
Schwartz: 9-10 (May be played by a 9-12 year old) One of Ralphie’s classmates and best buddies; Schwartz becomes the scapegoat when Ralphie utters an unmentionable word.
Scut Farkus: 11-13 A textbook example of a schoolyard bully, Scut is loud, obnoxious and intimidating. This truant is a year or two older than Ralphie and his friends, and wears a perpetual scowl under his coonskin cap. He always appears at the most inopportune time to harass his victims.
Grover Dill: 9-10 (May be played by a 9-12 year old) Grover is Farkus's toady, and is always at his side. Younger and smaller than Farkus, Grover delights in being tethered to his hero. His rapid-fire belly laughs, always heard with Farkus's threats, make them the scourge of the neighborhood.
Esther Jane, Mary Beth, Nancy: Age 9-12 Ralphie’s classmates.
