4000 MILES by Amy Herzog explores the relationship that develops after a disastrous coast to coast bike ride when 21-year old college drop out Leo arrives at his feisty 91-year old grandmother's West Village apartment. Over a month's time these unlikely roommates find each other infuriating and bewildering-but, ultimately, they discover an unexpected kinship of two outsiders finding their way in today's world.
· Vera - 91, tiny and frail but not without fortitude. Although a little shaky on her feet, mentally she’s sharp as a tack. A life-time Marxist, she’s lived most of her life in Greenwich Village, New York.
· Leo - 21. Lanky, and physically fit. Vera's grandson. Grew up in Minnesota. Sure of himself on the outside, but lost and insecure on the inside. He’s currently going through a philosophical crisis.
· Bec-21, Leo's ex-girlfriend. Very calls her chubby, but she's not. She's strong, beautiful and hale. She is more mature than Leo.
· Amanda -19, Asian-American. Young-looking. Pretty. From a wealthy family. A party girl, out for a good time
