Center Stage Jackson is excited to announce auditions for the musical 1776, music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards, book by Peter Stone. Directed by Denise Weber, this is a particularly unique opportunity for actors, as all performances will be held directly in front of the historic Cascades Falls, a man-made illuminated waterfall located in the Sparks Foundation County Park in Jackson.
Auditions will be held Monday March 21 and Tuesday March 22, 2016 from 6:30pm until 8:30pm at Jackson's First Presbyterian Church, 743 E. Michigan Ave, Jackson MI 49201. Parking and entrance is in the rear of the church.
Auditioning actors and actresses should prepare a song of their choosing and bring sheet music. A pianist will be provided. If a computer/CD player/speaker, etc. is needed to play your audition music, please bring one with you. There will be vocal auditions, cold readings, and a dance audition.
Performances of 1776 will be held June 10-12 and June 17-19, with possible rain date performances June 24-26. All performances will be held at 8:00pm directly in front of the Cascades Falls, 1233 S. Brown St. Jackson MI 49203.
1776 calls for 25 males ages 16-70+ and two females ages 20-40. Females are encouraged to audition, as there will be groups of women singing patriotic songs during pre-show.
Witness the birth of a nation as our forefathers struggle to craft the Declaration of Independence. 1776 puts a human face on the pages of history as we see the men behind the national icons: proud, frightened, uncertain, irritable, charming, often petty and ultimately noble figures determined to do the right thing for a fledgling nation.
It's the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence...if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! 1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, and Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.
