This weather is some of the best we get all year. Here are some fun things you can do as a student as the days get longer and hotter.
Hello hello!
Spring break is such a great time to unwind from your schoolwork. My mood is immediately brightened when Daylight Savings time rolls around, and the sun starts setting later. Spring break may already have passed for most of us, but here are some fun and/or productive things that I have done during past breaks, that you may want to do when you have your next big stretch of free time!
I'm usually putting all of my energy into school throughout the year. It's at this time when I'm not as busy, that I give my room a thorough decluttering. I'll usually go through my clothes and find a ton of stuff to donate, which frees up a lot of space.
You could also try an upcycling project, with a piece of clothing that may be too worn out to donate. There are plenty of ideas you can find online for repurposing clothes.
I love cooking, or occasionally baking, and I try to make something new as often as I can. If I make something that I'm happy with, then I will immediately write down the recipe that I used for future reference. That way, I don't have to go hunting online for the specific recipe I used, and I can experiment with different flavors or measurements in the future.
I think trying out a new recipe is the perfect thing for a sunny day where you have some free time. You can follow a recipe with friends, or you can make something alone while listening to music or putting a movie on in the background. Usually once per semester, I will bake something to share with my classmates, and I like getting their feedback! I'm definitely someone who enjoys laying around on my phone all day, so it's a nice way to get a little movement in.
I'm really not much of an adventurous eater, so it's not often that I try out new restaurant. I usually prefer to eat at the same places that I've known my whole life. Recently, I went to a new Colombian restaurant that had opened, and now I'm obsessed with it, and have since recommended it to a bunch of my friends.
If you're not someone who actively seeks out new eateries, then my guess is that your next favorite restaurant could be hiding under your nose. Even if you don't branch out into totally unfamiliar cuisine, you could still find something new to love.
Alternatively, you can invite your friends over to one of your all-time favorite places to eat. If your friends live in different towns, it could be a nice way to introduce them to your area!
At this point in the year, tons of plants and flowers are starting to emerge. I think drawing things you can find outside is great way to relax, if you want to take your mind off of work for a little bit. If you're into photography, there are plenty of cool things you can capture on camera in just a 5-minute walk.
I've been fortunate to see one Broadway show each spring break throughout college. I also love getting to know the theaters around me and seeing what they're putting on. My old high school usually puts on their musical around this time, so I love getting to support them!
If you can find a nearby theater that's putting on a musical, play, or cabaret, definitely go support them when you can! It's especially fun when you go to enough local shows that you start recognizing actors that you have already seen previously. It's also a good way to meet other theater-goers. You may be able to strike up a conversation with your next-seat neighbor, or you might run into someone you haven't seen in years, and now you have the opportunity to catch up with them!
I think that there are a bunch of activities out there that "fit" with each season. The weather is just so beautiful during this time, when it's not too cold, and not too hot. However, for a student, springtime means studying hard for final exams. For students of the arts, we have concerts, musicals, and art exhibits to prepare for. I think that to make the most of your studying, you have to take breaks every now and then, and these activities are good ways to do take brief breaks while getting in touch with your surroundings.
