School is finally out for summer, and I for one, could not be happier. Warm weather, friends and family by my side, and best of all, no homework or papers to write.

Summertime to me always signifies a time for change and a chance to be better. Something about the constant sunshine inspires me to get my life together and attempt to accomplish all of the things that I put off during the school year. It may not be realistic, but it’s the truth.

Since finals ended early last month, I’ve actually started working out again and taking more time to cook and eat right. And worst of all, I’ve actually come to enjoy it. I have a pretty hefty track record of hating exercise and disdaining those who commit to working out and meal prepping. I was never able to see myself making those same kinds of choices, and I loved to bash on those who did. I honestly kind of still do. But now that I’ve been able to carve out more time in my day to spend being active and moving my body, I’m starting to see the appeal. I’ve ventured to my local walking trails, gone to the gym, and even started doing at home pilates workouts. I feel better about myself, and I feel more motivated to do things in every aspect of my life. How gross! Who would have thought that exercise and nutrition could actually work?

With school out of session, I’ve had the time to read leisurely, something that I find very difficult to do while classes are going on. I’ve finished two books this past month, which may be few to some, but many to me! It’s all about the little wins in life. I’ve made it my personal goal to read ten books this year outside of my studies, and I’m now four books in. This is the summer of falling back in love with reading. My latest read is My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh, and I’m very excited for the literary adventures coming my way as the summer trudges on.

And in two weeks, I begin an internship with Paramount +, which is perhaps the best and most thrilling part of my summer plans. Working with such an incredible company, in a field I am so incredibly passionate about, in New York City of all places, is just the biggest treat I could ever ask for. There is so much in store, and I am so incredibly eager to immerse myself in a new world. As naive as it sounds, I cannot wait to be a full fledged working girl with a nine to five routine, wearing my business casual outfits, and learning more than ever before.

All of this to say, whatever it is you’re doing this summer, enjoy it. Take time to care and tend to yourself in ways that you’re not able to during the school year. Read, relax, laugh, make memories. Challenge yourself personally and professionally. Restore your zest for life while the sun is still shining! Now is the time to take advantage of all of the inspiration you have bottled inside of you. Allow the summer to do for you what it does for me, and revel in all that life has to offer.
