Moving is stressful. Moving for the first time, now that is something else.
I had everything packed a week in advance. Did as much research as I could. Chatted with the roommates. Still nothing could prepare me for actually moving into college. I woke up and got ready. The move in appointment was at one in the afternoon, but my anxious self needed to be there at least thirty minutes early. I finished packing, put everything in the car, had dinner with the family, and then we were off. My mother was also doing some research of her own. She knew, kind of, where the dropoff point was.
My father already hates New York City. He was very reluctant to let me go to school here. The moment he started the car to make our way into the city, the Home Depot theme song started playing. My dorm is on 14th, the thing is you cannot park on this street, only emergency vehicles are permitted to do so. Father dearest did not care for this. Mother said that according to the parent facebook group that there was some kind of special parking that we could not find. So with my angry father double parked and with a lot of stumbles, my mother and I found the entrance to my dorm.
With my ID card in hand and a bin full of stuff, we made the journey to the room. One of my roommates moved in about two days ago. This was my first time meeting her. "AHHHHH.... She's real" That was the first thing I said to her in person. Honestly not that surprised. I knew I was gonna say something dumb. My mother helped me with a lot of the stuff but then just like that everything was done. I said goodbye to my family and then it was just me and my roommate. I started to unpack my clothes, but then I got a migraine and took a nap. Then we just walked. Now I am here. Writing this.
Here is what I wish I knew. I wish I listened to my parents and brought less stuff, but also wish that there is stuff that I just do not have, like command hooks. I wish I also actually read the emails about moving in as well. I am normally really good at reading emails, but sometimes there are just too many words. I also forgot to bring things to stick my photos on the wall. In the long run it's fine, but just little things can be the most annoying.
Now because I work in an understaffed corner store, I am coming back, reluctantly, home to work on the weekends. I hope that this is only temporary, like I was told it was going to be, but you never know. I am currently trying to find a job, so fingers crossed as we go through the job search, like almost everyone else.
But other than that, that was my first day of college for the most part. What I am going to do the next week before classes is beyond me, but we shall see what happens.
