After having my first year of college online, here is how I am preparing.
Walk in to any Target at the moment, you can see that college move-in season is right around the corner. There are so many things that go into the move in process. This is how I am dealing with all of this.
As a sophomore in college who has never step foot on campus, I am a bit nervous, but my lord I am ready to get out of my house. I am going to The New School in New York City. So not only will I be leaving the nest, I will also be entering this giant city with thousands of other people. Depending on where you are going to college, these tips may not be helpful but you never know.
The first thing that I have been doing since my acceptance has been tons of research. From campus, to classes, to dorming I have spent a lot of time just on the school website trying to prepare myself for the journey that is going to come. Dorming research was fun if I'm being honest. At my school, you are able to do a lot of the picking. You pick the roomies, the building, and even the room. The amount of Youtube videos that I have watched "touring" the dorms has been insane. Youtube and Google Maps are becoming my best friends. When it came to classes, I am the kind of person who will really only look over the description, but not look up the professors.
Another thing that I have been doing is buying for the dorm little by little. Doing this has allowed me to think about what I actually need. Dorms are a much smaller place than what I am used to, and you are sharing the space with a person/people you barely know. You must pick and choose carefully what you bring to make those walls yours. It is important to remember that you are able to go back home. There are breaks in the semester that allows you to switch out the clothes you need per season, and if you forget something minute, you can get it later. Another thing is that there are also stores that exists. You are able to leave and get stuff or even order things off of the all mighty Amazon.com if that is more your speed.
Additionally, you should make sure that all of your paper work and necessary things are all set and in order. Book all of those doctor appointments, and have the school health forms all filled out. Make sure that everything is set so that when you arrive on campus there are no mix ups or anything out of pocket.
Finally, have fun. It sounds stupid and cliche, but this is one of the last times in your life where you are really going to be carefree. The summer between your last year of high school and your first year of college is a time where you should just enjoy the moment. This was one of my favorite summers. I had very little worries and just had to focus on the upcoming school year as well as work. No summer school work really. Just some summer bliss.
