Water by the Spoonful, Quiara Alegria Hudes' Pulitzer Prize-winning play, will have its New Jersey Premiere at Premiere Stages, the professional theatre at Kean University in Union from July 14th through July 31st. Directed by Kel Haney, she brings an impressive array of credits to Premiere Stages that includes collaboration on last season's Great Kills by Kate Cortesi as well as regional and Off-Broadway productions.

Water by the Spoonful is the second play in Ms. Hudes' acclaimed "Elliot trilogy" which also includes Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue and The Happiest Song Plays Last. The show is a poignant depiction of the trials of addiction and a powerful and compassionate look at the meaning of family.

"We are proud to present this important and fiercely contemporary play to New Jersey audiences for the first time," stated John J. Wooten, Producing Artistic Director of Premiere Stages. "Opiod dependency has become a dependency in the state, and Quiara's characters are uniquely compelling in their ability to challenge and inspire us to take a fresh perspective on the increasingly significant issue of addiction."

Water by the Spoonful features a very impressive cast that includes Zack Calhoon, Sean Carvajal, Zuleyma Guevara, Kana Hatakeyama, Ethan Hova, Jamil A.C. Mangan and Emma Ramos. Denisse Estefany is the female understudy and Sebastian Madrigal is the male understudy.

Audience members can further engage with Water by the Spoonful through the Premiere Stages 2016 Talk-Back Series that offers free post show discussions. They include:

-Water by the Spoonful in Rehearsal & Performance on Sunday, July 24th at 3:00 pm with Kel Haney
