Go Comedy!, Detroit's only improv theater, announces that it's switching-up its weekly line up of hilarious shows including a timeless extension and an ol' switcheroo!
Thursdays: Soapbox Derby, The House Team, The Ol Switcheroo
Soapbox Derby ($5), the show that brings special guests to the Go Comedy! stage to tell their stories will continue to open Thursday nights at 8pm. Past guests have included comedian Mike Bobbit, the local band Mahoney, Ferndale Mayor Craig Covey, and WDET host Craig Fahle. Future guests include local band, TheLincolns UK (scheduled for Thursday, March 5th), Don Calamia, Jan Stevenson, and Sharlan Douglas. Soapbox Derby will be followed by The Go Comedy! House Team at 9pm performing their weekly improv show.
The Ol' Switcheroo, an original written comedy by Mikey Wilson, Louie Krause, Pete Jacokes, Dave Davies and Andy Dombrowski rounds out the night at 10pm. The Ol' Switcheroo had its premiere at the Planet Ant Theatre in the fall of 2008 after the cast won the Planet Ant's Improv Colony Festival. Directed by Dave Davies, The Ol' Switcheroo will run on Thursdays at 10pm now through March 12. Tickets for The Ol' Switcheroo are $5.
Go Comedy! hopes to allow the 10pm Thursday time slot to evolve into a showcase for original comedic material from local talent. Beginning Thursday, March 19, Go Comedy! will present its own original show, Missionary Accomplish: The Audacity of Hump, a rollicking comedic adventure through the wonderful world of sex. Tickets for Missionary Accomplished will be $10.
Sundays: Timeless: The Danceical, Rock-o-Matic, Elemenopy
Sunday nights kick off at 8pm with the highly successful comedy, Timeless: The Danceical. Originally scheduled for a limited run, the show that invites you to "get lost in the motion" will continue with an open-ended run. Timeless is followed at 9pm by the fully improvised rock opera, Rock-o-Matic featuring improvisers Pj Jacokes, Jaime Moyer, and Matt Naas with the musical talents of Phred and Mikey Brown. The night wraps up at 10pm with Elemenopy featuring Chris DiAngelo and Pj Jacokes.
Go Comedy!'s Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night line ups remain unchanged. Wednesdays (All tickets $5) begin with The Golden Hour at 8pm featuring Generation Gap and The Go Comedy! Launch Box, followed at 9pm by The Proving Grounds, an opportunity for local improvisers to present new and experimental material. Fresh Sauce, the open improv jam closes Wednesday nights at 10pm.
Friday and Saturday nights feature The Go Comedy! All Star Showdown ($15) at 8pm and 10pm where two teams of Detroit’s best improvisers go head to head in an improv competition tailored to challenge their abilities, think on their feet, and give audiences a roaring good time. The Showdown is followed at 11:30pm by Dark Matter ($5) the no-holds barred improv show featuring the cast of the All Star Showdown with special guests.
