Stageworks Theatre was named winner of the 2009 Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Arts & Culture Nonprofit of the Year Award at an event on Thursday, June 18th at the Embassy Suites Tampa Hotel at University of South Florida.

About 250 businesspeople gathered to honor 29 finalists and celebrate the winners in six categories.

Andrea Graham, President of Stageworks Theatre’s Board of Directors, accepted the award saying, “We are very proud to receive this prestigious award, especially in a year when being a good financial steward is difficult.” She continued, “Our work with at-risk youth in the juvenile justice system and other at-risk communities must continue, even when the market is not as quick to give contributions. This award is a mark of excellence that will help us raise more money. “

Stageworks is also raising funds for its new theatre in the Channel District and plans to open in March 2010 with the show “To Kill A Mockingbird.”
