Costa Mesa Playhouse presents “Killer Joe” by Tracy Letts, Nov. 2 through Nov. 24. Acclaimed American playwright Tracy Letts penned Killer Joe a decade before his 2008 Pulitzer winner, August: Osage County. The darkly comic thriller broadened its audience with the 2011 film adaptation starring Matthew McConaughey, and directed by five-time Academy Award-winner William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist). Set in a West Dallas trailer park, the dissolute Smith family hires hit man Joe Cooper to murder its matriarch for insurance money. Joe takes the family’s innocent daughter as a retainer against his final payoff, which sets in motion a bloody aftermath. WARNING: Killer Joe contains graphic scenes of violence, brutality, sex, and nudity.
Costa Mesa Playhouse is at 661 Hamilton Street , Costa Mesa, CA.
